Summary:
The recent enlargement of the European Union has far-reaching implications for the economies of the acceding countries and the remaining Eastern European economies. It has raised the potential for both domestic and foreign investments in the region, and for private-public partnership in the countries that are going through transition. A better understanding of structural and institutional changes that have taken place in those countries, and their possible path of future developments, are extremely important to both practitioners and policymakers. This volume provides new insights into economic and financial developments in Central and Eastern European countries, and assesses the implications of transition and EU enlargement for those countries. It presents both analytical and empirical studies on a number of countries and examines the response of stock markets in central Europe to news of financial crisis in other emerging markets.
