Blending in the Rainbow Nation offers a critical and detailed look at the young generation in post-Apartheid South Africa and examines the ways in which members of the group relate to and engage with the post-Apartheid process of social and political reconciliation. To investigate whether and to what extent such processes are in fact taking place, Krisztina Tihanyi focuses on the institution of the school, carefully choosing each school in her study to represent the full range of economic and racial diversity present in the Cape Town area of South Africa. Based on ethnographic fieldwork, this book presents the schools through detail-rich vignettes, which in turn feed into an analysis of the successes and failures of racial integration and the consequent impact of these processes on reconciliation.
