- Summary:
- Identities in Transition is a book about Mesolithic strategies in the Swedish province of Ostergotland. The publication is based on the material discovered in connection with recent contract archaeology in Ostergotland. In the last fifteen years our knowledge of the period has grown enormously in terms of both quality and quantity. This book is an attempt to present the current state of research.
- The content of this volume rests on two foundations. One is represented by the extensive archaeological surveys conducted over a number of years in Ostergotland. The other is the excavations of several Mesolithic sites, particularly the Middle and Late Mesolithic settlement site in the town of Motala, which yielded a huge amount of organic material including a large number of leister points of antler.
- The book is intended for an international audience who will be given a chance here to acquaint themselves with a new region. It is also suitable for Swedish readers who wish to update their knowledge about the Mesolithic in Ostergotland. Local people will also find interesting reading about the earliest prehistory of their province.
