Summary:
Most developing economies must rely largely on imported technologies as sources of new productive knowledge since most research and development and innovation is undertaken in high-income countries. The importance of international technology diffusion for economic development can hardly be overstated. This title explores the channels through which existing knowledge is transferred across countries, the magnitude of such transfers, as well as their impact. Using cross-country and firm level data, it focuses on the diffusion of knowledge, with a particular focus on international trade and direct foreign investment.
