- Summary:
- The year 2000 marked the 500th anniversary of the edict of the expulsion of the Jews of medieval Provence (22 May 1500). This decree was reiterated a year later by Louis XII (31 July 1501) and enforced in September 1501. Originating from the Provengal example, similar edicts of eradication for example, in Spain and Catalunya have been observed in mediterranean Europe. By exploring new horizons, the exchange of ideas between specialists during this colloquium in a particular context that of September 11, 2001 has shed a new light on the understanding of the phenomenon of expulsion of religious minorities at the beginning of modern times.
