- Summary:
- Anthony McCall's Line Describing a Cone has long been a classic of American avant-garde cinema. With the increasing presence of video installations in contemporary galleries and museums, curators have begun to mine the history of the moving image in art, and McCall consistently comes to the fore as one of the most important post-minimalist artist-filmmakers. This book-the first of its kind on the early films of Anthony McCall-includes a major new essay by Branden Joseph, an associate professor in the department of art history at the University of California, Irvine, and an interview with the artist by Jonathan Walley, a lecturer in the cinema department at Dennison University. It also includes the first photo-documentation of McCall's decisively ephemeral works, as well as nearly a hundred new reproductions of photographs, sketches, and diagrams from the artist's archive, making this monograph a benchmark for further research and scholarship.
