- Biography/History:
- Johannes Schwarzenberg was the youngest son of Fürst Karl zu Schwarzenberg (1859-1913) and Ida Gräfin Hoyos (1870-1946). Apparently, he was distantly related to the siblings Adolf, Anna, and Ida Schwarzenberg, who were also of a noble family. Under threat of arrest as an Austrian diplomat, he fled Austria at the time of the Anschluss in 1938 and lived in the following years in Belgium and then Switzerland. From 1947 he was part of the Austrian diplomatic mission in Rome and was named full ambassador there in 1952. From 1955 to 1965 he was the Austrian ambassador in London.
- Summary:
- 2 items reflect Alma Mahler's contact with Schwarzenberg during a visit to Rome in 1954; 1 item was written just following his appointment as ambassador in London.
