The correspondence reflects mutual appreciation between Lewisohn and Werfel with regard to Lewisohn's English translation of Werfel's novel Das Lied von Bernadette, and also includes Werfel's responses to a novel and a story by Lewisohn. In 1 letter Werfel writes in support of an émigré Austrian writer, asking Lewisohn about publishing possibilities; he was enclosing a copy of a story by the unidentified writer entitled "Die Rache ist mein."
