In letters of 1943 and 1944 Jacob, among other things, comments about his book Geschichte des Brotes (Six Thousand Years of Bread) and the surprising fact of its being accepted for publication in the the U.S.; he recalls an exchange he had with Stefan Zweig about the manuscript in 1941. The last item (1945) is a heartfelt condolence letter to Alma Mahler upon the death of Franz Werfel.
