- Hiehl was apparently a German writer living in the U.S.; he mentions a lecture tour and having completed work on a biographical novel. A poem is enclosed. The letter reflects a friendly relationship with Werfel, mentioning Werfel's having given him a copy of his novel Das Lied von Bernadette and written him a long letter about it; Hiehl also recommends to Werfel a doctor from Germany practicing in California.
