- Alma Mahler and Walter Gropius were married in 1915 and divorced in 1920. Ise Gropius (born Frank) was the second wife of Walter Gropius; they were married in 1923. Manon Gropius was the daughter of Walter Gropius and Alma Mahler, and the stepdaughter of Franz Werfel.

- Includes 87 items and 1 draft item from Alma Mahler, 3 of which are addressed jointly to Walter and Ise, and 5 of which are addressed to Ise; 2 items from Franz Werfel to Walter Gropius; 2 items from Ise Gropius to Alma Mahler; and 3 items from Manon Gropius to Walter Gropius.
- A total of 33 items (46 leaves) are originals; of these original items, 1 item and 1 draft are from Alma Mahler and all the others are from Walter Gropius. The remaining items are all photocopies; the originals are in the Bauhaus-Archiv in Berlin. In the case of photocopies of items from Walter and Ise Gropius these are usually photocopies of either handwritten or carbon copies which the correspondent had made before sending. 1 of the original items is a journal article about Walter Gropius, and 1 is a postcard with an American newspaper clipping about him taped onto it and a German translation typed below.
