- Biography/History:
- The correspondent, if correctly identified as Lili Fraenkel-Conrat, was the mother of the well-known German-American biochemist Heinz Ludwig Fraenkel-Conrat (1910-1999) and wife of the German Jewish gynecologist Ludwig Fraenkel (1870-1951), who was known for his endocrinological research.
- Summary:
- Correspondent signs herself as "Lili" and indicates that she was acquainted with Alma Mahler since the 1930s; the letter gives much biographical detail which in several important aspects confirms the assumption that she was indeed Lili Fraenkel-Conrat. Her letter describes the international odyssey of herself and her husband, Ludwig Fraenkel, during the Nazi era, including his participation in the founding of an endicrinological institute in Uruguay.
