Biography/History:
Manfred George was editor of Aufbau from 1939 to 1965; the newspaper mainly served the German Jewish immigrant population in America but also claimed an international readership. In its letterhead it is described as an American Jewish weekly in German and English, serving the interests and the Americanization of the immigrants.
Summary:
Mainly concerns appeals to Franz Werfel to participate in ongoing endeavors. In April 1943 Manfred George telegrams that Aufbau intends to send a telegram to prominent world leaders articulating solidarity in mourning for the victims of axis brutality, and appealing to the addressees for a message of consolation and encouragement to the Jewish people; Werfel's annotation on the reverse indicates his intention to endorse the telegram.
