- Biography/History:
- Hedwig Fischer (born Landshoff; 1871-1952) was the widow of the publisher Samuel Fischer and the mother-in-law of Gottfried Bermann Fischer, who was Franz Werfel's publisher after 1938.
- Summary:
- Amidst diverse personal news and reflections, Fischer sometimes mentions her daughter Brigitte (Tutti) and son-in-law Gottfried Bermann Fischer and frequently speaks of Hilla Fischer (apparently another daughter), at one point mentioning Hilla's work for the conductor Fritz Busch. In a letter from 1948 she talks about her deceased husband, Samuel Fischer, and her life with him; she also mentions her wish to put together another volume of correspondence of German authors with him, after the success of a volume of letters from Rilke, which she edited (published 1947). In a letter from 1944 she asks Alma Mahler to provide an affidavit on her behalf in connection with her immigration proceedings.
