Biography/History:
Carl Ebert first met Alma Mahler when he was director of the Städtische Oper in Berlin in the early 1930s (she mentions the meeting in her memoir Mein Leben); he emigrated in 1934, and was co-founder of the Glyndebourne Festival Opera House in Sussex; later, he was director of the Städtische Oper in West Berlin (1954-1961). Gertie Ebert was the wife of Carl Ebert.
