Ascribed by Gautier (Épopées françaises, 2 éd., t. III, 1880) and by G. Paris (Hist. poétique de Charlemagne, 1905) to one Nicolas de Padoue. The editor'as researches indicate that it is by an anonymous author of Padua, while the continuation, part of which is lost, is by Nicolas of Verona. The longer fragment of the continuation, preserved in another manuscript, has been published by Mussafia under title: Prise de Pampelune, Vienna, 1864. Title in red and black.
