Summary:
A new legal area, social security law regulates the complex relationship between the State & social security institutions, enterprises, & other economic entities, & families & individuals. The Encyclopaedia consists of national & international monographs. National monographs concentrate on the general systems of social security that cover wage-earners and, in many cases, the entire population against the most significant risks: healthcare, sickness benefits, pensions, unemployment benefits, & family benefits. For each social security system, an essay describes the field of application, the conditions for entitlement, the calculation of benefits, the financing, & the institutional framework. Law enforcement, controls, & appeals receive special attention. International monographs deal with international organisations such as the International Labour Organization, the Council of Europe, the European Union, & the Nordic Council. The Encyclopaedia further provides an International Social Security Law Code with the main international texts that regulate social security in the industrialised nations. Separate Case Law & Codex volumes contain, respectively, the relevant international & regional jurisprudence with background notes & English-language texts of many important documents, conventions, regulations, directives, & recommendations. This publication provides practitioners & scholars with current, substantial coverage in this novel area of law.
