- Summary:
- An album primarily of photographs and signatures from house parties in England and Scotland and two trips to India. The houses pictured include Wonham, Bryngwyn, Swarland, Murrayshall, Easton Park, Bawdsey Manor, Methersgate Hall, Moulton Paddocks, and Walhampton; the signers include members of the Hollond, Rankin, Murray Graham, Heyworth-Savage, Lucas, Quilter, Heseltine, Lomax, and Bulkeley-Johnson families. There are formal and informal photographs of families as well as exterior and interior building photographs. Photographs of Basset Week 1901 show the pack belonging to the Heseltine family at Walhampton. The compiler seems to have been a woman, based on the photograph with the caption "My turn at the porridge" (f. 2v), showing a woman in a pith helmet cooking over a campfire in India. That trip to India is dated March 1899 and shows Indians accompanying the British travelers, who include William B. and Alice Gladstone. Another trip to India is dated February and March 1900 and shows a hunting party traveling by elephant and picnicking. A final trip to India on the S. S. Persia in 1902 leads to a page of photographs titled "Review of Native Retainers," showing a procession again including elephants, as well as camels.
