- Summary:
- There has been little drama publishing in Malawi of late, although the practice of drama is active and strong, and drama is widely held as an important tool in communication and development. This collection of new plays is published with this gap in mind; additionally serving to bring modern Malawian drama to a wider audience. The collection comprises nine plays by five dramatists. The plays broadly fall into the categories of realistic drama, farce, political satire, and an adapted musical. The dramatists include the late Du Chisiza Jr., one of Malawi's foremost dramatists, who has written some fifty plays and trained as many actors, and author of the title play; Mufananji Magalasi, who has directed many plays in South Africa and Malawi and is currently head of Drama Programmes at the University of Malawi; Gertrude Webster Kamkwatira, author of some thirteen plays and active in the Malawi Theatre Organisation, Innocent Kommwa and Smith Likongwe.
