Summary:
Three generations consider the significance of labor to a meaningful life. Grandfather, father, and son dramatize religious tradition and the history of labor conditions in America (accompanied by the folksongs inspired by that history). New questions are raised by automation: what will that mean to people raised to work? How will people find personal identity?
