Summary:

H.G. Wells is justly remembered as one of the fathers of modern science fiction, but to remember him simply for The War of the Worlds, The Island of Doctor Moreau, The Invisible Man, and a few other excellent tales, is to diminish a life of accomplishment, activism, and engagement with the shaping forces of the twentieth century.
