- Summary:
- For well over a decade Edward Norman's Meditation column in Saturday's Daily Telegraph has attracted a large following among readers, and a second collection of the articles -- following the earlier success of Out of the Depths -- is here published in their original form. The Meditations are each self-contained arguments in support of a traditionalist understanding of Christianity, intended to help readers in their faith, and to maintain respect for the teachings of the Church. In that, they are plainly hostile to liberal interpretations of the Christian religion, and especially intend to deny modern reductionist attempts widely made in the church of today as well as outside it, to represent the mission of Christ as compatible with Humanist ethics. In his rigorous Introduction to the collection, the author surveys modern versions of religious belief with critical disdain.
