Poem in 43 numbered stanzas; first line: As I lay slumbering on my bed. Signed: To Mr. Jeremiah Sandborn. From your affectionate friend, James Cate. February 12, 1799.
"The number of deaths in Sandbornton, in the year 1798, (within 12 months) is 35--twenty-five adults, & ten children; 19 of this number were women--six of whom left infants. Among the many inflicted families, I shall mention one in particular, viz. Mr. Jeremiah Sandborn's;--he buried his wife, his sister (the widow Anna Coley) and his daughter, all of whom died of a fever. ..."
