The pseudonym Andrew Aguecheek is taken from the character in Shakespeare's Twelfth night.

The actual calculator was John Tobler. The calculations and astronomical notes on the calendar pages are identical with those in his Pennsylvania town and country-man's almanack for 1762 (Germantown), except that the columns for the sun's rising and setting are combined.
