"Sabin attributes the authorship to Increase Mather, but he probably had nothing to do with it. Deane says it is by Sir Edmund Andros. Isaiah Thomas, in his reprint in 1773, says it is by Several gentlemen who were of the Council. 'To the reader' is signed E.[dward] R.[awson] and S.[amuel] S.[ewall]."--Evans.
