Mistakenly dated [1765] by Ford and Bristol. March 23 fell on a Saturday in that year; on a Monday in 1767. Reference is made in the text to a town meeting held in Boston on March 23; such a meeting was held in 1767.
The Massachusetts Historical Society copy is inscribed: "R. Tyler who was a councillor. A conversation about him." Royall Tyler was a member of the Massachusetts Council from 1765 to 1771. Cf. Sibley's Harvard graduates, vo. 11, pages 313-318.
