- Summary:
- Williams (University of California-San Diego) presents review articles on the cell biology of photoreceptor and RPE cells, and the relationship between cell biology and inherited photoreceptor degeneration. Each chapter is concerned with the cell biology of a particular protein or process. Outer retinal diseases are also discussed, but this coverage is limited to those diseases associated with defects in the chosen cell biological areas. For the vision scientist, the book will be a review of photoreceptor and RPE cell biology and the known molecular bases of many forms of retinitis pigmentosa and related retinal degeneration. For the cell biologist, there are articles on topics such as protein targeting, molecular motors, and phagocytosis placed in the functional context of two of the most specialized cells in the body.
