Summary:
Khurram's manipulative stepmother wants her daughter to be the next queen. Khurram refuses and marries Arjumand, and they have two sons while in hiding. Nurjahan has the children kidnapped and Khurram goes to his dying father, who by now realizes his mistake. The Emperor declares Khurram to be the next Emperor, has Nurjahan arrested and gives Khurram the title of Shah Jahan.
He finds Arjumand on her deathbed and promises to build a monument which will be a symbol of their love. A war of succession breaks out between his two sons, who have him thrown into prison. From his cell, Khurram can see the Taj Mahal and remember his life with Arjumand. He dies in prison holding the memory of Arjumand close to his heart.
