Summary:
Old English Literature in its Manuscript Context is a collection of essays originally written for an NEH summer seminar conducted by Paul Szarmach and Timothy Graham at the Parker Library of Corpus Christi College, Cambridge in 1997. Recognizing the need for Anglo-Saxonists to investigate all assumptions about Old English literary texts, eight established scholars consider the ideas of textual identity, authorship and translation, as well as editorial standards and obligations. Editor Joyce Tally Lionarons has assembled a collection of studies which examine many nearly intractable issues facing the textual scholar of Anglo-Saxon literature. This text is essential reading for persons interested in the history of Old English literature.
