Summary:
This paper reviews Kenya's land laws and their impact on land use. It reveals the existence of a multiplicity of laws regulating land ownership and also reveals that there is a strong inclination towards a private ownership regime. Despite this trend, communal land ownership under the customary regime still remains in place in vast areas of Kenya causing a major source of conflict in land use and management.
