Biography/History:
The Ordre de Saint-Michel was established by Louis XI, King of France, on August 1, 1469, in an attempt to strengthen the loyalty of the feudal aristocracy.
Summary:
Statutes and constitution of the Ordre de Saint-Michel, detailing the responsibilities of the knights of the order, such as attendance at an annual meeting on the Feast of St. Michael (September 29).

The date of the order's founding, 1469, appears on f. 33v; on the same page, a slightly later note refers to the position of the prévost maistre des ceremonies, which was instituted in 1476.

Decoration: 4-line illuminated initial (f. 1r), gold letter on a red square decorated with gray (once silver?) vines and flowers.
Binding: 19th-century gilt red morocco (Zacour-Hirsch).
Origin: Written in France between 1469 and 1476.
