Biography/History:
After receiving a B.A. and M.A. from the College of New Jersey (now Princeton University) in 1760 and 1763, Archer studied medicine at the College of Philadelphia (now the University of Pennsylvania) and was one of ten members in the first class to receive the degree of Bachelor of Medicine in 1768. Returning to his origins in Harford County, Maryland, he practiced medicine for forty years and also served in the legislature and judiciary of Maryland.
Summary:
The third in a series of at least eight ledgers in which John Archer recorded patient notes, fees, and debts. The first seven pages are an index of patient names arranged alphabetically, after which the chronological entries of the ledger begin in 1775 and continue to 1783. The last 33 pages, beginning from the end, contain a text in Latin titled "Compendium Logicae," copied by Archer as a student in the 1760s.

Binding: Contemporary sheep (bookseller's notes), back cover detached, spine damaged, front cover cut off about 47 mm. from spine.
Origin: Written in Harford County, Maryland, between 1775 and 1783, except for the Compendium Logicae at the back, which was probably copied in Baltimore in 1764.
