The series launched here will provide a comparative base for studying the roots and present forms of Finno-Ugrian and Samoyed mythologies and ethnics religions, that is, among Uralic-speaking people across northern Eurasia from Fennoscandia to the Taimyr peninsula in Siberia. The first volume was produced at the Komi Research Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences, and published, in Russian, with the help of the Ministry of Culture and Higher Education of the Komi Republic. The entries range from simple dictionary definitions of terms to multi-page treatments of stories, figures, or themes. The English translation is by Serei Belykh with help from Peter Meikle and Karen Armstrong. Distributed in the US by ISBS. Annotation 2004 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR (booknews.com)
