Summary:
Neuroscience at a Glance is a concise, accessible and student-friendly review of a traditionally complex field. The book uses an integrated approach to cover the anatomy, biochemistry, physiology and pharmacology of the nervous system as well as setting the material in a clinical context. Following the now classic At a Glance format, the authors employ double page spreads composed of clear, memorable diagrams that support accompanying key facts and essential information. The first section of the book covers the anatomy, structure and function of the nervous system at the microscopic level. The second deals with cutaneous and visceral sensation, including pain mechanisms, the visual and auditory systems, and the clinical disorders of the sensory pathways. Section three covers motor control and coordination of movement. Sections four and five cover the brainstem and special senses respectively, as well as looking at the higher functions (memory, mood, cognition), and sleep, injury and ageing. This edition includes four new chapters on clinical examination and disorders, providing excellent clinical relevance for readers. This second edition of Neuroscience at a Glance provides an authoritative yet user-friendly review of this complex subject. It is an ideal resource for students following both traditional and integrated courses, whilst students of other health professions and examination candidates will also find it invaluable. This book fits into the budget and reading time of busy students, and is ideal as an introduction to the subject, as a companion book for a course, and/or as a book for revision prior to examinations. It is also supported by an on-line companion.
