Summary:
Documentary on the progressive change for women in rural India with focus on the family-planning work of the Janani organization. Fighting for their rights in a gender-biased culture, these women emerge as community leaders when given the chance to participate. They are transformed as they teach other women about taboo subjects, such as reproductive health and their own bodies. Though filmed in India, its message of female self-empowerment in the shadow of a male-dominated society is universal.
