Summary:
The story focuses on Edmund Dantes, betrayed by friends and unjustly accused and imprisoned for conspiring with Napoleon Bonaparte. In prison, Dantes learns of the valuable hidden treasure of Monte Cristo, a treasure he eventually uncovers after escaping from his unbearable captivity. Dantes assumes the title of 'Count of Monte Cristo' and begins his long repressed vengeance against those who betrayed him.
