Contains a transcript of Hemingway's narration for the sound track for the film "The Spanish earth". The film was directed by Joris Ivens, photographed by John Ferno and presented by Contemporary Historians, Inc. It's purpose was to raise money for the Loyalist cause. The transcript is divided into six reels. The afternote, "The Heat and The Cold" is reprinted from Verve (Spring 1938).
"There are two issues of the first edtion. The first issue has pictorial endpapers, front and back ... The second issue has plain tan endpapers with a statement printed on the rear lining paper. It states that Hemingway 'had nothing to do with the preparation of this book, never saw the proof, furnished no material for the introduction ...'. Although this statement is signed by Jasper Wood ... it was taken directly from the second page of a telegram sent to him by Hemingway, from Key West, Florida, on July 19, 1938."--Cf. Hanneman.
Tan cloth lettered in black on front cover and spine. The lettering partly covers a huge clenched fist and three small airplanes, all stamped in orange.
