The character of "Count Bruga" is based on Hecht's friend and rival Maxwell Bodenheim. Bodenheim wrote "Duke Herring" in response.
Yellow cloth boards decorated and lettered in black and red. Illustrated front cover art is of a man about town in top hat and cane being thrown out of a brick townhouse. Top edge stained black.
