Summary:
Since the 1980s, the women's movement in China has developed into a new historical phase with the rise and activity of various "popular" women's organizations. These organizations emerged when women began organizing to support vulnerable social groups, create social change, and challenge gender-based inqualities in society. This study introduces the origins and work of three important organizations -- the Women's Research Institute/Maple Women's Psychological Counseling Center, the Jinglun Family Center, and the Migrant Women's Club -- and describes the role played by these and other organizations in this new phase in the development of China's women's movement.
