Introductory stanzas are placed before the dedication and have the date of 1849 printed after the last line.

"In some early copies of the first edition, occur two printer's errors which were corrected in later copies. Line 13 of page 2 is printed 'And gazing on the sullen tree' for 'And gazing on thee, sullen tree'. Line 3 on page 198 is printed 'To make old baseness picturesque' for 'To make old bareness picturesque'."--Cf. Wise.
