Chancery folio, printed in double columns. Leaf a2r: 49 lines of commentary to a full column, plus headline; area of text: 191 (203) x 140 mm.; col. width: 65 mm. Initial spaces, some with guide-letters. With signatures; without foliation and catchwords. Woodcut illustration on leaf a1r depicting a seated Albertus Magnus holding a book and lecturing to six students, including Saint Thomas Aquinas. Some geometric ill. in margin of leaf g6v. Koelhoff's device with his initials above the arms of Cologne on verso of last leaf.
Local Notes:
Rubrication: some paragraph marks, capital strokes, and underlines supplied by a reader in red ink.
Leaf size: 285 x 205 mm.
Copious early ms. annotations in Latin in at least two hands (possibly Christophorus and Martin Heinsius) throughout in red and black ink, with fists, brackets, underlines, and markings; two geometric shapes in black ink on margin of leaf e8r.
With the autographs of M. (Martin?) Heinsius and Christophorus Heinsius at lower margin of front pastedown.
Binding: contemporary full vellum over wooden boards; blind stamped panels with tooling and arabesques; four raised bands on spine; with two bronze clasps, both intact. Housed in a case.
Lower corner of leaf i6 torn, and lower corner of leaf z1 torn off with no loss of text; dampstained throughout.
