On verso of t.p.: This story was written by Mr. Kipling for the St. Nicholas magazine. It appeared in the January number of 1893, and has never been reprinted or included in his collected works. It now appears for the first time in book form. Sixty-six numbered copies have been printed from monotype for private presentation and the type distributed.
