- Summary:
- Receipt book kept by Samuel B. Myers from 1833 to 1853 for purchases, rents, and other transactions. Entries made in Pittsburgh, Chambersburg, and Fayetteville, Penn. Remainder of the volume comprises culinary, veterinary, and traditional home medicinal recipes; plus recipes for varnishes, paints, dyes, beer, and wine. Culinary recipes include cakes (a large wedding cake), biscuits, muffins, cookies, pies, preserves, pickles, and a recipe for curing hams. A number of recipes are in the hand of Theadore Myers and are dated to 1895. Also includes two full-page scaled drawings for an Empire style washstand and small dresser.
