Title from incipit of v. 1 (leaf [a]2r), which reads: Incipit speculum naturale Vincentij beluacensis fratris ordinis predicatoru[m]. Et primo prologus de causa suscepti operis et eius materia.
Imprint from ISTC. "Also recorded as [for Anton Koberger, about 1483] and [Nuremberg: Anton Koberger, 1486] and [Basel: Johann Amerbach?] ... Proctor assigned this work to Koberger in Nuremberg, BMC II to Basel, and BMC III to Strassburg. Dated about 1483 by Sack, who suggests that it was printed by the Printer of the 'Legenda aurea' for Koberger. A München BSB copy has a rubricator's date 13 Dec. 1481."--ISTC.
Royal folio, printed in double columns. Leaf [a2]v: 69 lines to a full column, plus headline; area of text: 332 (355) x 208 mm.; col. width: 92 mm. Initial spaces, a few with guide letters; spaces for paragraph marks. Without signatures, foliation or catchwords.
Signatures: v. 1: [a]-[d]¹⁰ [e]-[z]⁸ [A]-[B]¹⁰ [C]-[M]⁸ [N]¹⁰ [O]⁸ [P]¹⁰ (leaves [a]1 and [b]10 blanks) ; v. 2: [2a]-[2y]⁸ [2z]⁶ [2A]-[2L]⁸ [2M]-[2N]⁶ (leaves [2a]1 and [2N]6 blanks).

Penn Libraries copy bound in 3 volumes, each in full modern parchment with 2 gold-tooled leather spine labels (one with author's name and title, the other with shelf-mark) and all edges stippled red. Left board of v.1 damaged, revealing a portion of a parchment bifolium from a liturgical ms. (frame ruled in brown ink with first line below top line and written in a Gothic bookhand in two columns with text in dark ink, rubrics and capital strokes in red ink, and initials in red, blue or red and blue ink; contains texts for the feasts of St. Rufus, St. Augustine, St. Lawrence, St. Tiburtius, and St. Hippolytus and companions) used as binder's waste. Spine of v. 2 damaged, revealing an early printed paper leaf from a liturgical book (possibly a breviary, printed in red and black, with text in Latin and rubrics in Italian for the feast of Sts. Tiburtius, Valerianus and Maximus) and a parchment ms. leaf used as binder's waste. Left board of v. 3 damaged, revealing a parchment ms. leaf used as binder's waste.
