Summary:
Based on the real-life ethical dilemmas that the contributors have encountered in their research, this book tackles some of the core ethical issues faced by researchers in forensic mental health today. The book focuses on the question of consent (the capacity to consent in forensic settings, the procurement of consent among incarcerated people and the ability of young people to provide consent) but also looks, among other issues, at the effects of culturally specific lay beliefs about mental illness, confidentiality and ethics in risk assessment research. Taking into account the recent policy developments following the Griffiths and Redfern reports, this collection will be of great use to all those conducting mental health research and prove throught-provoking for anyone working in the field.
