- Summary:
- In the 1960s a group of young Anglican theologians in Cambridge published a book called Soundings. This created a revolution in people's thinking and initiated a period of genuine renewal.
- At a time when the Anglican Communion is tom apart by disputes, here is a book by a small group of bright innovative theologians which will create a stir. All the contributors have been influenced by Rowan Williams and the new Archbishop has contributed a preface.
- The disaffection with the Church is not, in the view of the authors, principally connected with presentation -- there are many succesful churches and organisations. The problem, they argue, is the poor quality of the ideas peddled by the modern Church, which is highly dispiriting. What people desire is a theology offered to them in dialogue, critical awareness and optimism.
- The Church must be at the forefront of developing exciting and commanding ideas which will inform and improve a Christian civilization.
