- Summary:
- This volume takes an integrative approach to the physiologic process of water and electrolyte balance. It is divided into three parts: sodium and potassium balance, hormones regulating electrolyte balance, and endocrine regulation of calcium and phosphate balance. Renin, angiotensinogen, angiotensin converting enzymes, angiotensins, aldosterone, kallikrein-kinin, natriuretic hormones, antidiuretic hormone, parathyroid hormone and polyhormones, parathyroid hormone-related peptide and vitamin D are discussed in critical and comprehensive detail. The book presents the genomic alterations in electrolyte and water balance as functional processes and thereby helps lay the foundation for the emerging era of functional genomics in both health and disease.
