- Summary:
- Manolo Valdes, along with Antoni Tapies are certainly the greatest contemporary Spanish artists. This book is the catalog of a twenty-year retrospective at the Guggenheim Bilbao that brings together in one exhibition his paintings, sculpture and drawings. Although a thoroughly modern artist, evidenced by the fact that he co-represented his country at the 1999 Venice Biennale, Valdes has always turned to the history of art for inspiration, and this exhibition represents a journey through his work according to his themes and sensibilities regarding the history of art itself. The work of Manolo Valdes focuses on and invigorates itself with the search for and reflection upon certain details in the paintings of the great masters, with which he sews together his peculiar mosaic of esthetic experiences, so well represented in this catalog.
