Notes:
"To add one more to the pile of plays inspired by Mary Queen of Scots perhaps demands some apology, or justification. 'Fotheringhay' may at least claim a historical accuracy not common in its predecessors. The theme, the central incident, and all important conversations in Acts I and III are fully documented from the report of Paulet and the private journal of Bourgoing. Some dramatic freedom has been admitted into Act II, but here again the whole of the material on which it is based is historically sound."--Preface.
"First performance in the Lauriston Hall, Edinburgh, August 1953."
