- Summary:
- In this volume, renowned folklorist Stith Thompson presents a wide-ranging and representative sampling of North American Indian folk tales from points as far apart as Southern California and Labrador. Despite their geographical separation, however, the stories often share similar elements. They have been grouped here into such categories as mythological stories, mythical incidents, trickster tales, hero tales, journeys to the other world, animal wives and husbands, tales borrowed from Europeans and more. There are even Indian stories based on such biblical subjects as Noah's Flood, The Tower of Babel and Crossing the Red Sea.
